Privacy Policy

Plain-language policy, written to respect the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173). This is a solid starting point, not legal advice, so we'll have a lawyer review it before public launch.
The short version
Ako Lang Ba? is built on trust. You share honest feelings anonymously, and we work hard to keep it that way. Your name and email are never shown on any post. We keep your identity stored separately from what you post. We don't sell your personal data. Ever.
What we collect
To create your account (needed to post): your email address (or your Google account email, if you sign in with Google).
Optional (you choose whether to share, never shown on posts): age range, city, and gender. These help us understand the community in aggregate. You can skip them.
When you use the app: the posts and votes you make, plus basic technical data (e.g. device/browser info and IP address) used for security, to prevent spam, and to enforce "one vote per post."
How we use it
- To run the service (create your account, show the feed, count votes).
- To keep it safe (block spam and abuse, moderate content).
- To send you updates only if you opted in to our newsletter. You can opt out anytime.
- To produce anonymized, aggregate insights (e.g. trends in what people are feeling). These never identify you and are not tied to your name or email.
What we DON'T do
- We don't show your identity next to your posts.
- We don't sell your personal data.
- We don't link public confessions back to your name.
How your anonymity is protected
In our database, your identity (account/email) is kept separate from your post content. Posts are published without any name, avatar, or contact detail.
Cookies & local storage
We use cookies and your browser's local storage for two things: keeping you logged in, and remembering which posts you've already voted on (so each post counts one vote per device). We don't use them for third-party advertising.
How long we keep data
- Posts: kept indefinitely (they never expire), but always anonymous.
- Account data: kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data and disconnect it from any posts.
Your rights under the Data Privacy Act (RA 10173)
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw your consent (for example, to unsubscribe from emails). To make a request, contact us at [email protected]. You may also raise concerns with the National Privacy Commission (NPC).
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep the data we collect minimal on purpose. The less we hold, the safer you are.
Changes
If we update this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new date.
